Westerdahl Scores Season-High 16, Chargers Drop Conference Opener

Freshman guard Allison Westerdahl (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) recorded a season-best 16 points, but the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team dropped its Arrowhead Conference opener 52-47 at Sauk Valley on Tuesday night.
Westerdahl surpassed her previous high of 11 points, set Dec. 7 at Waubonsee, for her third double-digit scoring effort of the season. Sophomore Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) added 12 points for Sandburg (7-12, 0-1).
The Skyhawks took a 25-20 lead into halftime. The teams scored 12 points apiece in the third quarter and 15 each in the fourth.
Sauk Valley was led by Shian Galbreath’s game-high 18 points as it avenged a 69-62 triple-overtime loss to Sandburg on Dec. 28 at the Illinois Central Cougar Holiday Tournament.
